Choosing Faith over the Familiar

Choosing Faith over the Familiar

About

Hello and Welcome to the Creative Force Podcast, in this episode I sat down with my close friend and fellow entrepreneur, Kelley Perry. Kelley shares her personal story of leaving a familiar career to step into a brand new season at God's prompting. She gets really honest about what it felt like to stay two years longer than God was calling her to leave, how she finally came to trust God's goodness enough to take the leap, and what she has discovered about faith, rest, and finances on the other side.

If you have ever felt a pull toward something new but are afraid to let go of what is familiar, this one is for you.

My Takeaways

Staying somewhere God is calling you to leave, even a good place, will cost you your peace.

God doesn't just want blind obedience. He wants you to know how much He loves you so that trust comes from the heart, not just the will.

The biggest hindrance to moving forward is not believing the next thing will be good. Spend time with God until you see His goodness clearly.

Faith works by love. As you grow in understanding of God's love for you, fear loses its grip and boldness takes its place.

God can insert a thought in your mind but it gets quickly buried under doubt and fear. The desires that keep rising back up as you spend time with Him are worth trusting.

Three confirmation checkpoints: the Word of God confirms it, you have peace in your heart, and you sense God's love behind it. When all three line up, step out boldly.

Entrepreneurship is a partnership with God. You have to actually give Him a seat at the table, let Him have a say, and be willing to follow His lead over what the world says works.

Rest is not laziness. God will sometimes ask you to put down the work and just be with Him. Trusting that is an act of faith.

Most Christians have more faith in an employer to provide than they do in God. God wants to break that pattern and show Himself faithful as provider.

God does want His children to prosper, not just have enough. He wants abundance that blesses your family, your community, and future generations.

You don't need to know everything before you try. I don't need to know everything to try is a mindset shift that breaks the paralysis of over-preparation.

Practice using your faith like a muscle. Ask yourself weekly: what is one scary thing I am going to do? What am I believing God for that feels impossible?

If you feel tempted to go back to the familiar, check whether it is coming from fear or from God's leading. Fear of the unknown is not the same as God redirecting you.

God is patient. It is okay to tell Him you are not ready yet. He will walk you through it until the fear melts and desire and boldness rise up instead.
