How to Break Free from the Story Keeping You Stuck

How to Break Free from the Story Keeping You Stuck

About

Hello and Welcome to the Creative Force Podcast, a podcast for women of faith who are ready to get unstuck and build something meaningful! In this episode, I sit down with Coach Drea Tapia, founder of Mind Shift from Chaos to Clarity, a mindset coach who helps people break through the stories they have been telling themselves and step into the life God designed them for.

Drea shares her personal story of getting unstuck, talks about the language patterns that keep us stuck in victim mode, and does a live coaching exercise.

This episode is for the Christian woman who knows something is keeping her stuck and is ready to do the inner work that to produce lasting change.

My Takeaways

Mindset in its simplest form is the story you tell yourself. A story is made of words and breath. When you keep a story in your head it spins quickly, carries a lot of emotion, and has no beginning or end. Writing it down is the slowest and most powerful way to take control of it.

The language game: one word can completely change the emotional weight of a sentence. The word ever in a question turns it into a statement of doom. Removing it opens up possibility and curiosity instead.

Dramatic words to watch for in your language: ever, always, never. These words take a perfectly good question and paint it as permanent and hopeless.

Soft talk words that keep you in victim mode: probably, perhaps, feels like, guess, maybe, could, might, possibly, sort of, kind of, potentially, hopefully, try, one day, should, almost. These words soften communication so much that they create confusion, misinterpretation, and lack of direction.

Direct is kind. When we soften our language to avoid conflict we end up being unclear and misunderstood. Direct communication leaves no room for misinterpretation.

Naming your emotions is critical. Until you can put a name to what you are feeling it is very hard to work on it. Identifying where you feel emotions in your body is equally important.

High functioning women are experts at suppressing their emotions. Letting feelings come to the surface, naming them, and identifying where they live in the body is the first step to real healing.

Mindset work is uncomfortable but the version of yourself on the other side is unrecognizable in the best way.

Breath is a lever for mindset change. If your breath is high, tight, shallow, and fast you cannot make lasting changes to your story. Low and slow breathing slows everything down and creates space to observe your words and patterns.

Curiosity kills conflict. When you are in a season of transition ask yourself: what am I telling myself about this transition right now? Write the answer down and work from there.

Mindset is a daily practice not a one time fix. It is the renewing of the mind applied over and over again. Learning it and applying it consistently is what produces real transformation.

Going on a trust walk with God and literally handing him your business, your family, and your burdens is a powerful act of surrender. God meets you in that obedience.

Scriptures

"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." - Romans 12:2
