About
Hello and welcome to the Creative Force Podcast! It is just you and me today as I talk about something that I don’t think is discussed enough – self-trust. This episode is actually a sneak peek from a bonus course inside my Creative Force community on Skool so if you love what you hear today you are going to want to come join us in there!
In this episode, I share from my own personal journey, how you can learn to trust yourself and the commitments you make, how you can grow in confidence, and forgive yourself where you’ve fallen short. If you’re ready to show up for yourself the way you show up for everyone else, this episode is for you.
My Takeaways
• Confidence is a firm belief in your own abilities and a strong sense of trust in someone or something. If you are lacking confidence you are also likely lacking self-trust.
• Self-trust is built through evidence. Every time you do what you say you are going to do, you are adding to the case that you are someone who shows up for yourself.
• If you miss a day do not treat it like you are starting over at the beginning. Think of it as stepping slightly off the path and choosing to step right back on. The Hebrew word for repentance, shuva, literally means to return or turn back.
• Start incredibly small. The size of the action in the beginning does not matter. What matters is that you do it. Make the bar so low you cannot fail.
• Put your commitments to yourself on your calendar and treat them the way you would treat a commitment to a friend. You would not cancel last minute on a friend so do not cancel on yourself.
• You cannot consistently act outside of your identity. The way you see yourself on the inside determines what you do on the outside. This is why identity work is so foundational.
• When your identity shifts your desires shift with it. You stop wanting things that are inconsistent with who you now believe yourself to be.
• If you want long term change you have to renew your mind to your new identity. Romans 12:2. You cannot pour new wine into old wineskins.
• Try this journaling exercise: I identify as blank. Because I identify as blank I do blank. Then ask yourself if your actions actually match that belief and start acting accordingly.
• You are not striving to become who God is calling you to be. You are living from who he has already designed you to be all along.
• Self-forgiveness is essential. You cannot build a new identity on a foundation of shame. Acknowledge where self-trust has been broken, forgive yourself, and release it.
• That old version of you who did not follow through does not get to define you anymore. You are a new creation and she is gone.
Scriptures
• Proverbs 23:7 — For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
• Romans 12:2 — Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
• Mark 2:22 — No one puts new wine into old wineskins, or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins.
• 2 Corinthians 5:17 — Therefore if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation. Old things have passed away and behold all things have become new.
