About
Hello and welcome to the Creative Force Podcast! In this episode, I sat down with Candice Owen, a professional dancer and choreographer. Candice shares her beautiful story of pursuing commercial dance in Los Angeles, feeling God call her and her husband to Charis Bible College in Colorado, and discovering that what she thought she was giving up was actually being refined and given back to her in a way she never could have created on her own. We talk about how to hear God's voice, why imagination is the language of the spirit, and what spirit led movement is. This episode is for anyone who has ever wondered if they are really hearing God's voice or if it is just their own thoughts.
My Takeaways
• You hear God's voice more than you think you do. Often what you dismiss as just your own thoughts is actually God speaking. He wants you to respond to it.
• Hearing God does not always look a certain way. Invite him into everything: the car, the shower, the ordinary moments of your day. He is speaking in all of it.
• It is not striving to hear God's voice. It is simply opening your heart and expecting to hear him. We are spiritual beings living in a natural world and it is in our nature to hear God.
• God would rather you step out in faith and miss it than stay stuck in fear. He will course correct. He just wants you to trust him.
• Confirmation often comes on the other side of stepping out. You will not always know you heard God until you act on it.
• When you think you are giving something up for God you are really submitting it to him. He will refine it, clean it up, make it into gold, and give it back to you in a way you could never create for yourself.
• This is everything I ever wanted that I never knew I wanted. Following God leads you to your deepest desires even when the path does not make sense.
• The imagination is the language of the Spirit. Picturing yourself in the Word, seeing Jesus, imagining his presence is not childish. It is one of the primary ways God communicates with us.
• Children have rich heart soil. They can sense and feel God easily. As we grow up walls go up and the soil gets hardened. Tending to the heart and keeping a tender, childlike openness toward God is essential to a thriving relationship with him.
• The path into God's presence through spirit led movement follows Psalm 100:4: Thanksgiving opens the gates. Praise leads into the courts. Worship brings you into the Holy of Holies where you commune with him.
• Movement releases bondages and chains. Many people experience heart healing through Spirit Led Movement that goes far beyond the physical.
• Fear can be driving you without you even knowing it. If fear is Lord of your life Jesus is not. We have to be honest with ourselves and be willing to make hard decisions.
